Livv Welch graphic design monogram created with Adobe Illustrator
For our first assignment, we were tasked with creating a monogram that visually communicated aspects of who we are. Our objectives were to develop an understanding of the relation between typography and content, relationships between letters, look closely at typefaces, cultivate a working process, develop refinement skills, and learn basic typographic tools in Adobe Illustrator. We started very generally by choosing different fonts for each initial, while making sure they intertwined and related to each other at the same time as reflecting parts of our personality. For my own design, I wanted to reflect some of my biggest passions (movies, music, and magazines), so I stuck to fonts that reflected those interests. Throughout my process I designed and refined around 50 different monograms, and this was the final result.
